Alkyd resins are a group of synthetic polymers that are classified into three groups based on their oil length:
Long Oil: Long oil alkyd resins have a high percentage of natural oil and are suitable for applications that require high flexibility and adhesion. Oil paints, wood varnishes, and construction and decorative paints are among the applications of this type of resin.
Medium Oil: Medium oil resins strike a balance between hardness and flexibility, making them ideal for general applications. These resins are used in industrial paints, metal primers, and protective coatings.
Short Oil: Short oil resins with a low percentage of natural oil are suitable for applications that require high hardness and chemical resistance. Curable coatings, chemical-resistant paints, and automotive and industrial paints are among the uses of this type of resin.
